Thanksgiving 2012...one to remember

How is it possible that Thanksgiving has already come and gone?!?!  Where did the holiday weekend go?

We spent this wonderful holiday up north with my family this year.  We usually spend it with Steve's family, be we switched things up a bit this year.

I must preface this story by saying that the weekend before thanksgiving, I came down with a nasty cold and sore throat.  It was mostly gone by Tuesday except for some sniffles.

Tuesday we ended up leaving for my parents house.  We weren't going to leave until Wednesday, but it just so happened that Steve's schedule cleared up and we were able to pack quickly and head home Tuesday night.

Wednesday was spent playing and taking care of Hudson while Steve and the rest of my family worked.  My mom got off work early, so we went to the park and played!  We had so much fun and I got lots of great pictures of Hudson and his grandma!  That night Hudson went to bed at his normal time but whimpered in his sleep.  He never woke up, so I didn't think much of it.

Thursday morning (THANKSGIVING DAY)  Hudson woke up in drenched clothes and covered in sweat!  He was literally burning to the touch.  Now, I have never been able to tell if this baby had a fever in the past.  Every time I thought he was warm in the past, I would take his temperature and he would be just perfectly fine.  This time, there was no doubt.  HE WAS BURNING UP!  My sweet little HEALTHY baby has never ever EVER been sick, but this Thanksgiving, he was ill and it was more than likely ALL MY FAULT!

Not feeling too well, but he put up a good front.

I assumed it was his teeth giving him trouble and gave him some Tylenol and we went about our day.  I know, I'm the worst mother in the world for not figuring out sooner that he was SICK.  I have been kicking myself just thinking about it.  Anyway, we went up to Northern Indiana to visit my extended family.  Hudson seemed to be doing better, but I was still giving him Tylenol every few hours.  We had a really nice time visiting with everyone.  Again, I usually don't get to see them at Thanksgiving, so it was a real treat. ***I will say that it has been almost  a week and no one seems to have caught Hudson's illness***

When we got home Hudson was HOT again, so Steve and my dad had to run out to get a thermometer.  When they got back, I immediately took Hudson's temperature.  I was expecting maybe a fever of 101, but I wasn't expecting 104.6!  I scooped Hudson up and off we went to the ER with Steve and my mom.  No questions asked.

While we were there, they did all sorts of tests, blood work, x-rays, and gave Hudson 2 bags of IV fluids.  My poor little guy was a trooper.  He was super cuddly and just wanted to sleep.  We were finally sent home around 1:00am once his fever had subsided and his heart rate stabilized (it was crazy high).  They diagnosed Hudson with nothing more than a virus and gave me orders to give him Tylenol and Motrin every two hours.  Neither Hudson or I got much sleep that night.  We were under strict orders to go back in if anything changed or his fever went back up.  So that was Thanksgiving.  We defiantly made some memories.

The rest of the weekend, Hudson and I seemed to pass whatever virus it was back and forth.  When our Thanksgiving meal at home (on Saturday) came around I felt horrible and couldn't eat a bite!  SOOOO disappointing!  I have been looking forward to that food for such a long time!  haha  I guess it isn't a horrible thing that I wasn't in the mood to cram my face full of delicious food....

Saturday evening everyone was feeling better so we went to Christmas at the zoo.  Hudson really enjoyed seeing the animals and the lights!

Dressing up in Santa and Elf hats to decorate for Christmas.  It's a Smith Family tradition!

All in all it was great seeing everyone, I just wish we all felt better.  :) We had some good quality time with family and friends AND we got some Christmas decorations up!  Not to shabby!

My little boy is growing up!

This past weekend was a busy one!  Steve and I got the opportunity to go to a UK basketball game, so of corse we went!  We don't go on many "date nights'', but when we do its always fun!  Hudson got to spend some quality time with his Grandma Farmer. There really is something to be said for having family living close.  :)   Saturday we celebrated Hudson's little friend David's 1st birthday.  We had a wonderful time.  As we always do.

Anyway, Hudson is growing up!  He isn't MY little cuddle bug anymore!  No, he wants his DADDY! When did this happen?  I was the only person he would reach for and run to...  Now, sometimes, he runs to his daddy.  Occasionally, while I'm holding him he will even reach for Steve.  WHAT IS THAT ABOUT!  I'm not going to pretend it isn't crazy adorable to see Steve and Hudson bonding together like that, but it does feel like a swift kick to my stomach every time!  Steve keeps reassuring me that he wants me the most still, but I know he's just being nice.  I guess my little boy really needs his daddy now.  It makes sense, he is a little BOY after all.  I still love him more than words will ever be able to describe and we still have a lot of fun together, so everything is still good.

Ugh, that's all I'm going to say about that.

Did I mention Hudson is just the most adorable little boy ever?!?!

I can't believe that Thanksgiving is THIS WEEK!  I am so excited to see my family and for Hudson to eat good food and see his cousin!  It is going to be a wonderful Holiday!

Sorry for the randomness of this post...

Hudson, the...Builder???

Up until now, Hudson hasn't been able to control his urge to knock things (not people) down.  It's really funny to see.

Tonight, my little destroyer became a builder!  After dinner Hudson was playing with a few blocks and out of nowhere he started stacking them one on top of the other.  When they would topple over he would just start all over agin.  He would even get frustrated when he accidentally knocked them down.

It is so amazing to see Hudson learn, grow, and change.

More teeth!

I thought Hudson was getting his two front top teeth in, but as it turns out he is also getting his lateral mandibular incisors!  In fact, he has (f) his upper left tooth and (q) his lower right tooth in.  WOW!  No wonder this little man hasn't been sleeping too well.

My baby is looking more like a little boy every day!  sigh

Decorating for Christmas!

Nothing EVER goes how I plan it.  If you know me at all, then you know that this drives me 100% CRAZY, because I am a big planner.  With that being said, today was one of those days, but I wouldn't change it for anything.

In my mind, I had Steve, Hudson &  I all huddled around our Christmas boxes excited to dive in and start decorating the house.  We would all be sipping hot chocolate and laughing as Christmas music played in the background.  O and we would be out of our minds happily decorating and humming to the tune of jingle bells for hours....  BUT, realty wasn't exactly like this.  In fact, it wash't even close!

The plan was to gather together as a family and do all the decorating and tree trimming on Saturday afternoon.  Unfortunately, we he a snag when our pre-lit tree wouldn't light and Hudson was getting tired.  So we put out some wreaths and candles and called it a day.

We attempted our Farmer Family Decorating Day again this afternoon (after making a trip to the store for the lights).  Hudson had taken his nap and we were all ready.  I put up the new lights and began putting on some ornaments.  When we showed Hudson the tree he was thoroughly unimpressed!  I could't believe it.  After we got about half the ornaments on the tree, something gave out and our tree started falling!  Thankfully Steve caught it.  The base had broken.  After THE most stressful and frustrating hour, we were up and running.  We ended up not putting all the ornaments on the tree this year.  Partially because as soon as we had fun things hanging from the branches (some with bells) Hudson began attacking the tree!  He pulled, grabbed and ripped anything he could get his little hands on... We are going to have to keep an eye on that little stinker.

While it wasn't the afternoon I had imagined, it was full of laughs and plenty of memories.  :)  I am so blessed to have such a wonderful little family.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here!
