Sick Babies

As a mom, I get so stressed when my littles don't feel good.  We've all heard the horror stories about kids getting sick, something goes terribly wrong, and the next thing you know….  So needless to say every time my kids have a fever/cold/stomach bug I don't sleep.  I pretty much do nothing by take their tempter, write out time, temp, medicine…  I just want them to feel better so bad.  It doesn't help that my kiddos are super pitiful when they are sick.  They both get really sweet and cuddly and then the whimper and cry.  PIT-A-FUL.

So, as I type my little man Hud is laying on the couch next to me, sound asleep with a cool cloth on his head.  :(  I figured this would be a good time to write a little about our fun 1/2 weekend.

Yesterday, we went and had breakfast with Santa and did an Advent workshop.  Steve and I have been trying to figure out how to make Christmas more about Jesus and less about Santa and presents.  This turned out to be a really good start. Breakfast was delicious!  Who doesn't like some yummy golden pancakes?!?!  Hudson didn't waste any time, as soon as Santa got there he got up from our table and ran across the room to sit on his lap.  It was funny.  Steve and I had to chase him with our cameras so we could get a picture of him on Santa's Lap.  Alexis wanted absolutely nothing to do with Santa.  She cried.  She screamed,  She didn't even want to give a reluctant wave from across the room.  Soooo no picture with Santa for her.

After Breakfast we went to the Chapel where the children's minister talked about Advent (To Wait) and how we can prepare our hearts for Christmas.  The kids got to make a picture frame and an ornament before story time.  The story was about Christmas Trees and it's symbolism.  It was very interesting and Hudson really seamed to enjoy it.  It was a big morning.

We ran a couple errands then went to Church.  It was, again, about preparing our hearts for Jesus's birth.  We concluded the evening with dinner out and  DQ Blizzards while driving around looking at Christmas lights.  BEST FAMILY DAY EVER!

It's really no wonder Hud is feeling under the weather today.  We just wore him out! ha

Today we were supposed to go to our Neighborhood Christmas party so the kids could see santa again and get a sleigh ride.  Unfortunately we didn't make it.  No worries though, we have a couple more chances for Hudson and Alexis to see Santa :).

I really hope Hudson's fever breaks tonight so he can start feeling better soon.  It just breaks my heart to see him this way.  At least this is happening now and we are getting it out of the way before the real festivities begin!

Christmas Time Is Here

Where do I even begin?!?!

Hudson is doing great a school and just finished his first "season" of soccer.  He loved it!  I just signed him up for swim lessons this winter so hopefully that's a hit as well.

Hudson and Alexis (along with Steve and I) got to meet Charlie (cousin/nephew) for the first time a few weeks ago!  Hudson thought it was great and all to have a new cousin, but Alexis was in heaven.  She treated Charlie like he was her baby and wanted to do everything for him.  It was so sweet.  It almost made me want to have another baby just so she could have a baby sibling to love on.  Almost…..

The Christmas Season is upon us again and the kids are at such a fun age!  This year both kids are participating in Christmas activities and able to communicate with us.  It really makes everything fun and we are able to do so much more.

We hosted Thanksgiving this year so everyone came to our house for the day to eat, play games, and just enjoy each others company.  We ALL ate way too much food.  If I see turkey or any other thanksgiving type food before next year I might throw up.  haha  The day after Thanksgiving mom and I went shopping!  We really never do the whole Black Friday thing, but we did this year and it was so fun!  I pretty much knocked out all of our Holiday shopping in one day!  YEA!!!!!!

I am really trying to teach the kids the real meaning of Christmas and still tie in all the fun traditions (santa, elf on the shelf….) There are so many great ideas on Pinterest about books to read, Advent activities, games….  So far the kids and I made a Countdown to Christmas thankful chain, we read Christmas stories every night, and I've been reading them bible verses of the Christmas Story out of the bible.  They have been asking a few questions, but I think a lot of it is just going right over their head.  Planting Seeds :)

Then HE was 4!

My baby is growing up!  Sniff Sniff

Today, Hudson had his 4 year check up.  He is a beast of a child (and I mean that in the best most loving way possible).  The kid is 41 lbs 4 oz and is 42 inches tall!  That puts him in the 85th %ile for both height and weight!  See, told ya!  He's a beast!  :)

As expected Hudson checked out completely healthy and is a "normal, growing, healthy little boy".  :)  Obviously this news makes me very happy!

Hudson is such a sweet sensitive and funny child!  No one else on earth can laugh, have a melt down, say something so witty and historical, laugh again, then get serious and state some worldly truth all in a matter of seconds!  Oh the life of a preschooler!  haha  It's a roller coaster ride people!  All joking aside though, Hudson is the best little boy a mother could ask for.  He is kid and so considerate.  He is very aware of other peoples feelings.  He is extremely smart and intuitive.  You can see the gears turning in that head of his and see his thought processes.  It is amazing to witness how he is growing and developing both mentally and physically!  He has so much coordination now!  Hud is playing soccer this year at preschool and he is really very good if I do say so myself.

Hudson loves preschool and his teacher Mrs. Jackson.  In fact, when Hud misbehaves at home sometimes I tell him that I will tell Mrs. Jackson what he said/did, because he does a complete 180.  He loves his teacher so much he doesn't want her to know if he does something less than kind.  So, it doesn't surprise me at all that Hudson gets good reports EVERY SINGLE DAY at school!

Hudson loves to sing along to music.  His current Favorite is the song Loving You Easy by the Zac Brown Band.  It's really cute, you should hear it some time!

Anyway, I love Hudson so very much.  I don't think I could ever love another boy as much as him.  He makes me laugh on a daily basis and always brings a smile to my face.  I have loved watching him grow and turn into the sweet boy he is today.  I can't wait to see what the future holds for this bright child!

Here we are in FALL!

Once again I am failing in the blogging department…..  Seriously, it's really hard to keep up with when you have two kiddos, a dog, cat, house, and a husband to keep up with.  :)

Anyway, we got back from vacation a little over a week ago!  It was CRAZY but Oh so much fun!

We go to Ocean Isle Beach every year around the same time with Steve's family.  This year, because we haven't ever really had a family vacation just the four of us, we decided to leave for vacation a few days early to get some "just us" days before the whole crew came down.  Well, on our way to the beach we learned about a hurricane that would "possibly" cause us some problems.  We decided to soldier on and drove six hours Wednesday night.

Wednesday night, the forecast was not looking good for our North Carolina vacation.  We decided to backtrack about an hour to Asheville, NC to go visit the Biltmore in order to wait and see what the storm was going to do.  The Biltmore was lots of fun…for us adults anyway.  The kids were not nearly as impressed as we were.  At one point while running (seriously running) through the house, Hudson was sharing how disappointed he was that "A House That Big Didn't Even Have Any Toys!!!!".  We died laughing.  I hope one day Steve and I can go back just the two of us and take a more leisurely tour through the beautiful castle.  We really enjoyed walking the gardens.  At one point Hudson dropped his pants and started peeing on the roses…. it was amazing.  I was mortified as complete strangers started starring at our half naked child then at us, the irresponsible parents.  Steve on the other hand looked then right in the eye and said "eh, what are you going to do when nature calls?!" and shrugged and just simply walked away.  I died.

Anyway, that night after keeping a close watch on the weather reports, Steve and I decided that we just couldn't go to Ocean Isle Beach.  Even if the hurricane didn't make landfall, there would still be a tremendous amount of rain and flooding.  That's not how we wanted to spend our vacation.  That night I was up frantically searching for another option.  Amazingly, I found a wonderful condo in Gulf Shores (supposed to have perfect weather all week) that was perfect for us.  We talked to the rest of the family and they were all on board.  The next day we made the 8 1/2 hour drive in a different direction to Gulf Shores Alabama.

We had a great week visiting and celebrating Hudson's 4th Birthday!!!!!!  Hud has been into legos for a little while now, so that was a majority of his gifts as well as the theme of his little family birthday party.  We stayed up late the night before blowing up balloons and decorating so that when Hud woke up the next day he would be completely surprised!  The kid has it so good!  My birthday is coming up in a few weeks and I wish I could spend it on a warm sunny beach…..

It was truly a perfect family vacation.  I'm still in denial that it's over and we have been back home for almost a whole week.  Boooo

End of Summer

Hudson officially went back to school this past Tuesday!  Lets all do a happy dance (wink wink).  Seriously though, he LOVES going to preschool and playing with his friends.  It also happens to give this mama some one on wine time with Alexis.  It's a win win situation.

His first day of school was smooth sailing.  He was so excited the night before that he actually fell asleep at a decent hour!  I had a yummy breakfast waiting for him when he woke up (homemade whole wheat banana muffins, bacon, and fresh fruit).  He was ready to see who his new friends would be and to meet his teacher.  There were no tears.  It was awesome.

I will say that I have really enjoyed this summer with the kids.  It is so much easier than last year when Hud was too little to be independent and alexis was just a newborn baby.  This year, Hudson is much more "responsible" and able to follow directions.  He is so good at playing on his own.  Alexis is walking AND talking now, so communicating with her just keeps getting easier.  The kids can play together really well now (when they aren't fighting over some toy or attention).

We have really taken advantage of our zoo membership and have enjoyed some long days walking around looking at animals and having the best conversations.

Summer is flying by

As July is coming to an end, I have been reflecting back on what a fun and crazy summer this has been!

Steve and I started the summer off by taking an almost 2 week vacation to Las Vegas, LA, and Laguna Beach!  It was amazing and much needed.  It was the perfect amount of time together, away from the kids.  Any shorter and we would have been wishing for a longer trip, but any longer and we would have really started missing out babies and out home.  We also got to go to an Eagle's concert last weekend.  It was awesome!

We discovered the water park at the YMCA and have been loving that along with our neighborhood pools.  Both kids have really taken to the water and enjoy splashing around, chasing balls, and jumping off the edge.

The kids have also liked playing in our back yard this summer!  In years past, the sprinkler just wasn't that much fun, but THIS YEAR Hudson especially, LOVES to run through it!  We have been playing in a little baby pool, playing with water balloons, bubbles, finger paint….  It's nice when we don't have to leave the house to do something really fun!

A week ago today my sister gave birth to our nephew Charlie.  He is sooooo adorable and I'm dying to meet him!  I can't wait to get my hands on that baby and kiss all over him!  Unfortunately,  Jess, Her fiancĂ© Avery, and baby Charlie live in LA and it just isn't possible to fly out for a visit right now.  between childcare for my kids, Steve working, and the cost of flying across the country, not a chance. :(  But we are all so excited that Charlie is finally here and are so thankful for modern technology.  We have been able to FaceTime a few times, so it's almost like we are able to be there….

Alexis, is a walking (kinda) talking machine now!  haha She is walking everywhere and gets around extremely well.  She has the sweetest personality, unless you try to take something that she has…then watch out!  :)  She has almost all of her teeth in and LOVES to eat!  This girl isn't super picky.  She prefers homemade and healthy foods over prepackaged or processed foods, which is pretty amazing.  We recently started giving her "treats" every once in a while and she is HAPPY about that.  Alexis has also started talking some.  A lot of things we still can't understand even though her tone and inflection changes.  Other things like "daddy" "mama" "no" "yes" "peek-a-boo", "more" "bath" "me" "I want that" "night night"… are clear as day!  She does something new and amazing every day it seems.  Just today she sat in my lap for the first time and listened to be read her an entire book.  It was a short book, but still, she has never done that before.  She even helped me turn the pages!

Hudson has been amazing us as well!  Just yesterday he had his very first completely accident free day!  He used the potty all by himself.  Steve showed him how to pee standing up a couple weeks ago, and now he thinks he is "the man" because he can pee standing up too!  haha  He is so proud of himself and we are proud of him too!  Hudson is wearing his "man underwear" during the day and pull-ups at night.  GO HUD!  Hudson has also started memorizing all the songs on his quiet time CD's.  It is so sweet to hear him sing about "Noah's Arc, Father Abraham, Being in the Lords Army….  Hudson is so funny and smart.  Sometimes he says the funniest things, you don't even know how to respond!  Where does he come up with this stuff?!?!?  Hudson is so loving and kind hearted (most of the time).

I am so thankful to God, to have such healthy sweet babies.  I am so thankful God chose Steve and I to be their parents.  Every day with them, us as a family, is a blessing.

Happy 4th of July!

God Bless America

God Bless My Wonderful, Amazing, Beautiful Family!

July 4th 2015
Hudson is 3 years old & Alexis is 15 months

We had a wonderful 4th of July weekend up visiting my parents.  Hudson and Alexis are at such fun ages.  They are both growing and changing so much.  Hudson is so smart and is constantly trying to figure everything out; make things make sense to him.  Alexis is all about exploring.  She is walking now and wants to go everywhere.

We went to a concert that has become an annual tradition for us.  We went to the 4th of July parade in my hometown and I got to show the kids where "mommy went to high school".   After that we had family friends over for a cookout before heading to the fireworks!

In between all of our 4th of July activities Hudson learned to ride his little bike (with training wheels), the kids played with bubbles, and we had a big water balloon fight!

IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!

Funny things

After a fun filled family day at the pool, we were tucking the kids into bed.  Hud started rubbing his eyes.  I asked him if he was sleepy.  Hud said "No, I'm just rubbing my eyes to get more energy."

haha Steve and I both started laughing

Alexis is getting so big.

Adventures in Potty Trainig

I have barricaded Hudson, Alexis, and I in our kitchen.  Alexis is sound asleep and slightly neglected (thankfully she is too little to realize it) in her little swing while Huddy and I work on potty training.  It is 5:00pm and we have had 0-full successful potties, 2-partal successes, and 5 (yes FIVE)-accidents.

In my head, Huddy would catch on really easy and be a super freak child that learned to use the toilet in ONE DAY.  In my head, there would be tonz of opportunities throughout the day for Huddy to get it right.  In reality though, it looks like it is going to take MUCH MUCH longer than I anticipated.  Also, Hudson isn't the pee machine I previously thought he was.  We have been doing a lot of waiting.  in a 10 hour span, he has only needed to potty 7 times.... that's a lot of trial and error (mostly error).  Only getting two chances to praise him for "almost getting it right", doesn't allow for the learning and confidence building I was hoping to give today.

Why this sudden urgency to get Huddy Potty Trained?  Well, I went ahead and signed Hudson up for preschool this Fall.  They require that all the children in Hudson's age group be potty trained before they can attend.  I've already paid the registration fee and the first months tuition.  Hudson is going to learn to use the potty if it kills me!  :)

I asked a lot of mommy friends how they went about potty training their children and the main consensus seems to be that it takes a solid 3 days to get the hang of it.  I've already put in a full day.  WE AREN'T GIVNG UP NOW!

Alexis has mostly been swinging in her little lamb swing, but Huddy and I have been doing lots of fun things.  We have read lots of books, watched some MICKEY MOUSE, done some finger painting, coloring, made a pizza....  All in all its been a good day, but I sure am exhausted.

Who is training who?

Hudson is being really cooperative and sweet through this whole learning process.  He is happy and in a great mood.  I think he likes all the attention and did I mention the "treats" he gets.  If he uses the potty he gets some m&m's and he gets to put a sticker on his sticker chart that I made him.  His biggest motivator thought is that if he learns to use the potty he can go to pre-school!  I'm feeling very optimistic that Hudson will catch on soon!  He's a smart kid and I think once he starts realizing how this all works he will want to use the potty instead of going in his underwear.   O-did I mention that I took away his diapers.  He was wearing big boy underwear with airplanes on them, but he dirtied all 5 of them so now he's just going around without any bottoms on at all.  Yes, there are some messy situations, but it's so much easier for him to know when he needs to go.

So much is going on!

My baby sister is having a baby in about a month!  I am going to be an AUNT (by blood)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Can you tell I'm sooooo excited to have another baby in the family (and I don't have to carry it or birth it).

~Hudson

Hudson is learning to use the potty!  FINALLY!  While we were on vacation Elitha (Grammy) got hud to go #2 on the potty.  4 days later, and we had our very first NO ACCIDENT DAY until right before bedtime.  So One accident total.  ALL DAY.  OMG I couldn't be more excited!  When Hud goes a whole day without having any accidents, he gets to pick out a toy.  He's pretty excited too.  :)

Hudson is so excited for summer and being able to swim.  He still wears his little life vest thing, but loves to swim and kick and play in the water.

Hudson also loves books!  He has been asking to go to the "LIVRARY" a lot and he especially likes story time.  It's so fun having a child that likes to read books and WANTS to go to the library.  :)

Hudson is more independent than he has ever been.  He has started playing in the basement by himself. I don't feel the need to be hovering over him all the time.  Its nice that he can play so well alone, but I sure do love it when he asks me to play with him.

Hudson has transitioned from naps every day to quiet time where he can read books, listen to music, and/or play quietly with toys in his room.  If he is having a bad day or is especially grumpy though, we make him take a nap.

~Alexis

Alexis is the best little eater!  And that shouldn't be surprising since she has ALL HER TEETH!  That little girl LOVES her food and will occasionally bite her big brother if he starts pestering her.  It's pretty much her only line of defense, so she works with what she's got.

Alexis or "Wooo" has Hudson affectionately calls her started WALKING!  She's been standing up on her own for a few weeks, but she only recently started attempting to move without holding on.  Just today she took 6 steps in a row before falling to her knees!  I call that walking, don't you?1?!?!    My little baby is growing up!

Along with walking, Alexis is talking too!  She talks all the time.  We still can't make out what she is saying some of the time, but there are some things that are clear as day.  She will answer yes and no questions, repeat animal sounds, say mama, daddy, up, walk, bounce, ball.....  I'm pretty sure she might be the most adorable little girl that ever existed on earth!

Yesterday was our very first pool day where both kids got in the water with me.  Alexis did great!  I put her in a life vest that kept flipping her on her back and I think it was driving her a little crazy.....  but other than that, she loved the fountains in the baby pool and thoroughly enjoyed watching Hudson splash around.

Steve and I just got back from a nice 12 day vacation!  We flew to Las Vegas the went to LA and stayed with Jessica and Avery for a few days.  After that we drove to Laguna Beach where we spent our final days at the Montage Luxury Resort and Spa.  It was amazing (and much needed).  It was so nice being able to get away and recharge, but I am so thankful and happy to be home with our kids.  The time away allowed me to recharge and regroup, but I think it makes me a better mom to my children and wife to my husband when I can get away and take care of myself for a little while.  Anyway, This first week back home with the kids has just flown bye and I'm working really hard to put into action what I thought about and reflected on during our vacation.

My babies are growing up.

Life is moving pretty fast these days.

I haven't had the chance to sit down and breath, let alone write.

I feel like ever time I blink the kids are doing something new or off getting into trouble ;)

There is never a dull moment in this house, except right now because here I am writing.  There are so many other things that need done (dishes, laundry, vacuuming, picking up toys...) but writing about how my kids have grown and changed has been on the back burner long enough.  '

Hudson-

Since Hudson started preschool, we have seen so many wonderful changes in our sweet boy.  He started out shy and refused to participate in pretty much anything at school.  School programs were pretty awkward because he wouldn't sing or dance.  In fact, our little man would sit on the floor.  He wouldn't talk to his teacher.  She actually thought he had a speech delay even though he would come home at talk our ear off.  Apparently she had never heard him say a word until about 1/2 way through the school year.  Now, Hudson is participating in everything.  He loves preschool, his teacher, and all his little friends.  It is so cool to see him play with other kids.  They actually play together now instead of just playing around each other.

Hudson is so smart.  He is starting to figure out addition (2+2, 6+1, 3+5...).  I didn't know 3 year olds could do that but he can!  Hudson also has the most amazing memory.  He knows where we get our tires changed, oil changed, the grocery store, he remembers where alexis was born.  When we drive by places he will point out the window and say something like " That's where we ate lunch with grandma and grandpa last week" or "mommy, thats where we went to get the oil changed".  It is seriously impressive.

We recently had a scare with Hudson.  We were at a derby party and he decided to wander off.  There were lots of little kids and everyone was outside, but somehow he snuck away.  Once we realized he wasn't playing with the other kids or in the house somewhere I began to panic.  Steve and I (and some neighbor friends) started searching for him.  A friend of mine finally found him in our next door neighbors backyard.  He said he walked home to get a bandaid for a boo boo and got distracted by their trampoline....  ugh  I was a mixture of sooooo angry, soooo happy, and sooo relieved.

Hudson is becoming the funniest, smartest, sweetest little guy in the whole world.  He LOVES everything car, truck and superhero.

Alexis-

Our little stinker bug is growing up!  She is getting all her molars in right now and is so close to walking on her own it isn't even funny!  She will stand up on her own and push things or hold your hand ,but she is still a little too shaky to go at it alone.

Alexis is no longer regularly sleeping through the night.  I'm not sure whats going on.  Most nights she wakes up crying and cant sooth herself.  There have even been a few mornings ( 3:45am ) where I went downstairs with her and she ate a very early breakfast.

Alexis is really starting to copy what you say and loves to tell us no!  haha  She does it in such a cute way, we cant get mad.  One thing she has started doing that we need to figure out how to stop is her biting.  She has started biting Hudson.  A lot of times she bites in defense, or if he is pestering her, but she bites him hard and we cant have that going on.  Its her only line of defense as a 1 year old who cant really talk, but she needs to find another way.

I love my little babies soooo much.  They are just changing so much.  I probably wont write anything again until something major happens because I want to spend every second I can with my adorable kiddos!

Happy 1st Birthday Alexis

Alexis,

You are one year old today!  How on earth did that happen?!?!  It seems like just yesterday I was meticulously keeping track of every time you ate, slept, and pottied (newborn stuff).  You were so tiny in my arms, and made the sweetest faces.  I knew we would have a special bond from the moment I laid eyes on you.  Today, you are a smart baby/toddler!  You are so sweet and funny.  Your laugh is contagious.  Everyone that meets you comments on how beautiful you are and how gorgeous your hair is.  You still haven't gotten a hair cut, because those curls...they are just to pretty to cut off.

I can honestly say, I can not remember what life was like before you.  Nor can I imagine my life without you.  You have made this family feel complete and whole.  Your daddy and I adore you.  Alexis, you have your daddy wrapped around your little finger (I guess all is as it should be).  He just melts when you reach and coax for him to hold you.

I love how you love your big brother.  It is so cute how the two of you play together.  I hope you always remain close.  I know he loves you too.  Hud has come up with all sorts of names for you this past year:  Wooie, Gummy, Grummy, Munchkin.... Those are the ones he calls you the most.

I love you with all of my heart and soul.  I will love you until the day I die, and then forever after that.

Love,
mommy
