Today was one of the most fun days we've had in a while.
Most weekends we are busy. We are busy catching up, going places, visiting people, cleaning.... we love each other and enjoy each others company and find moments of joy amiss the work of daily life. BUT TODAY WAS DIFFERENT. Today, was a beautiful warm day. It was almost 60 degrees outside. Steve and I decided that we wanted to spend all day outside with no plans. We did just that.
Steve and Hudson have really bonded over cars. When Steve got his new car, Hud was so excited. They like to sit in the car together and rev the engine. They like to clean the cars. Hud likes to ride with Steve in the front seat from the front of our house down to the garage. It is so sweet. So today they decided to "clean daddy's car". Hudson was a great helper.
Me: Hudson do you like daddy's new car?
Hud: I LOVE daddy's car.
We also got out Huddy's own car (his Power Wheels Red Mustang) so he could drive around and play. He rode that car ALL DAY LONG! Eventually Hudson wanted Alexis to ride with him in the passenger seat. Because Hudson is really a good little driver and there are seat belts, I thought it would be alright. I thought Alexis would be nervous riding but she LOVED it! She laughed and squealed and that made Hud so happy! He decided he was going to take Alexis all sorts of fun places (all on our drive way, but in different spots). Hudson took Alexis to Church, the store, the YMCA to play, Noah's Arc, Chick-fil-A (he even fed Lexis pretend chicken nuggets), home, to the mall to get a cookie, and when he decided Alexis didn't want her cookie, Hudson took Lex to get Ice Cream at "the ice cream store". She had "chocolate" and Hud had "granilla". :)
It was the sweetest thing on earth.
The kiddos also played with sidewalk chalk. Hud made beautiful pictures AKA "colors" and Alexis kept trying to eat the chalk. She thought it was funny at first when I wouldn't let her put the chalk in her mouth, but eventually she got mad and started to cry. Poor little baby.
Hud showed off his athleticism today, by hitting lots of home runs with his t-ball set. We drew bases with sidewalk chalk and Huddy would hit the ball then run around to all the bases. He had so much fun. Steve and I were very impressed with his ability to hit the ball so well and his arm. the kid can through with accuracy. Maybe Hud has a future playing baseball?!?!
Steve and I took a long walk while the kids napped in the stroller. It was great just chatting and laughing together. We love to talk about our dreams and future when we go on walks. We make plans and "white board" as Steve calls it. It's something we have always done and I love the conversations we have when there are no distractions.
We concluded our evening with dinner at a Mexican restaurant near our house followed by a trip to Trader Joe's. Hudson loves going to TJ's because he gets to push his own little cart "all by myself". haha At checkout he got stickers and by the time we got home, he had stickers stuck all over his body. Hud was so proud of himself.
Today was one of those days that you hope you never forget. It was perfect. So many sweet memories were made and it made me so happy. Nothing fills my heart with joy more than quality family time thats full of laughter.
Today was the best day.
